How to get to Giglio

Reach Giglio by car, train, plane or bus

Whatever the means of transport you prefer to use to reach our beautiful island, you will have to arrive in the harbour town Porto Santo Stefano, in the province of Grosseto, the only port from which ferries leave for Giglio.

Airplane

If you are traveling by plane it is advisable to choose a flight arriving at the airports of Rome or Pisa which are the closest to Porto Santo Stefano. To reach Porto Santo Stefano, you can then choose to rent a car or rely on the combined train + bus or train + taxi.

Car or Motorbike

If you are coming from Northern Italy heading south you need to reach the city of Grosseto, take the South ring road and continue on the Aurelia towards Rome. Once you are near the town of Albinia, you must exit the Aurelia and follow the signs for Porto S. Stefano, Monte Argentario.
If, on the other hand, you are coming from the south to the north, you must take the A12 motorway and then continue on the Via Aurelia until you reach the characteristic town of Orbetello. At this point you must continue for about 10 km towards Porto S. Stefano, Monte Argentario.

Train and Bus / Taxi

If you do not want to use your own means or arrive by plane, you can reach Porto S. Stefano by train and then by bus or taxi. The railway line to choose is Genoa-Pisa-Rome, stopping at the Orbetello-Monte Argentario station. From here you can take the bus of the AT company in the direction of Porto Santo Stefano. In about 20 minutes you will arrive directly at the boarding area for the ferries to Giglio Island. Alternatively, you can also take a taxi.

There are two ferrie companies for the  Island of Giglio, Maregiglio and Toremar. The number of trips varies according to the period of the year: in high season their service is carried out from 6 to 20. The journey time for both companies is approximately one hour. If you want to bring your car or motorbike to the island with you, we recommend booking the ferry well in advance as in the high season the parking spaces are sold out very quickly. We have the possibility to book with the Maregiglio company offering a 10% discount for the parking space. If, on the other hand, you want to leave your car in Porto Santo Stefano, we recommend that you go to one of the private car parks near the boarding pier.

We book the ferry for you with the Maregiglio company offering a 10% discount for the car

Getting to the Hotel

After just an hour by ferry, you will disembark in Giglio Porto. You will have to take the provincial road towards Giglio Castello and Campese (you can’t go wrong, there is only one provincial road). After about 1.5 km of uphill road you will find an intersection. At this point, turn right to go down to Arenella beach and after a few meters you will see our gate on the left.

For those who do not arrive with their own car, we offer a free shuttle service that picks you up at the square 100 meters ahead where buses and taxis also depart. The shuttle will be always at your disposal also to go to the Arenella and Cannelle beaches.
